Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Sunday urged parties to build a consensus on a special Central package to “save the state’s economy”.

He urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to seriously pursue the issue of a special package for Punjab with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He also appealed to all other political parties to unite for the sake of Punjab and press for a bailout package for the state. Warring offered his party’s full support and cooperation in seeking the special package.

Warring said he had received a disturbing feedback from the industry. Under the current circumstances, it was difficult for the industry and trade to survive and sustain in Punjab, he added.

Punjab’s debt was mounting. “Let us not indulge in any blame game and deal with the issue collectively,” he urged the CM and other political parties. Saving the state’s economy might be the primary task and responsibility of the government, but its consequences would have to be borne by all, he added.
