Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsNearly a year after she was booked in a corruption and NDPS case, a former SHO of Moga police has surrendered in a local court. She appeared in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur and was remanded to judicial custody till October 20.
According to the case, on October 1, 2024, then SHO of Kot Ise Khan police station, Inspector Arshpreet Kaur Grewal, along with constable Gurpreet Singh, allegedly recovered 2 kg of opium from one Amarjit Singh and booked him under the NDPS Act. Later, investigations revealed that two more accomplices of Amarjit Singh were also caught with 3 kg of opium, but were allegedly released after a deal worth Rs 8 lakh. Of this, Rs 5 lakh was reportedly taken by the SHO and two constables — Gurpreet Singh and Rajpal Singh.
Following the inquiry, the Moga police had registered a case under the Corruption and NDPS Acts against Arshpreet Kaur, the two constables, and two drug peddlers, Manpreet Singh and Gurpreet Singh. All accused were placed under suspension and went into hiding.
Despite repeated summons, Arshpreet Kaur failed to appear in the court, leading to her being declared a proclaimed offender on July 31, 2025. Before going into hiding, she had taken to Facebook, alleging that senior officers had framed her in a false case after she resisted sexual harassment and refused to give a clean chit in a murder investigation. However, district officials said she had made no formal complaint of harassment.
Police sources confirmed that after surrendering today, the former SHO was sent to judicial custody.
