Four booked for ‘provocative’ comments

Accounts were being watched by police team for 'objectionable' content

The Ludhiana police have registered a case against four persons for their ‘provocative’ and ‘objectionable’ posts and addresses to the masses on social media platforms. The cases have been registered under Sections 196 (1) (2) and 353 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at different police stations in Ludhiana.

As per the available information, the cases were registered by the police itself on the basis of a complaint filed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and nodal officer of the social media team, Jatin Bansal. Bansal said the persons were under the scanner and their accounts were being watched by the social media wing of the Police Department for posting ‘provocative’ and ‘objectionable’ content.

The first case is against a Hindu leader, Chandrakant Chaddha, at Police Division No. 1. Chaddha, a resident of Vikas Nagar, Clocktower, is the main spokesperson for Shiv Sena here. He has posted ‘objectionable’ comments on a Facebook account.

In another case, Bhanu Pratap was booked by Police Division No. 3. Pratap is a resident of Nim Wali Gali, Ikbal Ganj.

The Police Division No. 4 have registered a case against Parveen Dang, president, Hindu Sikh Jagriti Sena here.

In another case, the Haibowal police have registered a case under Rohit Sahni, a resident of Star Colony, Haibowal, for regularly posting ‘objectionable’ comments on social media.
