Barnala SSP Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam said on Sunday that acting on specific inputs, a police team arrested four members of a gang of criminals.

They were identified as Satnam Singh, alias Satti (linked with the Bambiha gang), Gurpreet Singh, alias Guri, Sarm Singh, alias Rinku, and Deepak Singh.

The SSP said they were arrested when a police party intercepted their car at a naka on a link road at Khudi Kalan village in Barnala. The accused opened fire on the police party. They were, however, overpowered and arrested. Their car was also impounded, he added.

Four pistols and were seized from them. An FIR has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
