Hoshiarpur, December 27
Four persons were killed in a collision between a tipper and a canter that took place around 3 am near Dhakkowal village on the Hoshiarpur-Phagwara road today. One of the deceased was from Ludhiana, while the remaining belonged to Himachal Pradesh.
The deceased were identified as tipper driver Paramjit Singh of Garhi in Ludhiana district, canter driver Ajay Kumar of Rangoo (Jawalaji), Sunil Kumar of Dandoh (Nadaun) and Pankaj Kumar of Jalan (Nadaun), Hamirpur district.
According to information, the canter and the tipper collided head-on. Both vehicles were badly smashed and the occupants were stuck inside the mangled vehicles. Locals reached the spot and started attempts to rescue the victims. They said all four died on the spot. They were taken out by cutting the vehicles with metal cutters. The bodies were handed over to the families after a post-mortem examination at the local civil hospital.
Sources said the accident occurred because the tipper driver reportedly dozed off while driving. The driver lost control over the vehicle and it collided with the canter.
Pardeep Singh, incharge, Mehtiana police station, said ASI Sukhram was rushed to the spot with a police team.
