The fourth ‘Mela Teeyan Da’ was organised with great pomp and show at the local Nehru Park here on Sunday. The celebrations beat all previous records in terms of participation by women and children.

The Jakhar Trust had to defer the event by a week as the park was inundated due to heavy rain.

‘Gali Chatkare Wali’ was prepared especially for women, equipped with swings, kikli, giddha, bhangra performances and various delicacies. On the occasion, the craft-makeup market was also decorated by local women entrepreneurs, wherein various types of craft ans makeup items were available.

The main attraction was the ‘trinjana selfie point’, which provided a glimpse of the culture of Punjab-Haryana-Rajasthan. Tambola and many other games were also played for entertainment. Punjabi dhol team, open stage, Miss and Mrs Teej competitions were supported by the Unique Music Band and Aman Band.

MLA Sandeep Jakhar said that the festival of Teej reflects our values and culture. He added that the festival serves to unite families. Fortunately, women in our country, despite being tied to their homes, have time to add colour and life to festivals. Over 100 prizes were distributed through lucky draws.
