The Patiala police have arrested five members of a gang, including four women, involved in the sale and purchase of newborns across Punjab and Delhi. The police have recovered two newborn girls, aged 10 and five days, while the probe is on to identify 12 more newborns who were sold for lakhs of rupees.

Briefing the media, Patiala SP (City) Sarfaraz Alam said on August 30, we got information that a nurse, Kulwinder Kaur, was in Patiala where she would meet a private sweeper with Government Sangrur Hospital, Sarabjit Kaur, and together they would allegedly try to sell a newborn to Sirsa resident Rajesh Kumar.

“Our teams conducted a raid and arrested Kulwinder Kaur, Sarabjit Kaur and Rajesh Kumar and recovered the newborn. The trio revealed names of two more members of their gang — Jashandeep Kaur and Kamlesh Kaur,” said Alam. “We arrested both and recovered another newborn girl, which was only five-day old,” he added.
