Sukha Duneke gang member Lovepreet Singh (26), alias Jhaindu, was injured in an encounter with a police team from the Tallewal police station at a naka on the Vidhata village link road in Barnala district on Tuesday.

Barnala SSP Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam said Lovepreet opened fire on the police, hitting a police vehicle. In the retaliatory firing by the police, he suffered a bullet injury in the leg. Lovepreet is a resident of Mehal Khurd village in Barnala district.

The SSP said that a 30 bore pistol was seized from the spot. Lovepreet was involved in several criminal cases. He was declared a proclaimed offender (PO) in a case earlier, he added.
