The gharial was captured by a private diver-cum-wildlife expert Pargat Singh Sandhu whom villagers had called.

Locals had been living on the edge since the gharial had been spotted in the last few days in the Lalbai minor.

Kanwarpal Singh, a villager, said, “A number of village residents spotted the gharial last week and some of us have made videos as well. We first approached Forest Department officials, but when they did not show any interest, we called Pargat Singh Sandhu from Haryana.”
