Giani Harpreet Singh defied Dec 2 edict: Sukhbir Badal

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said Giani Harpeet Singh defied the Hukamnama (religious edict) of December 2, 2024, which specifically ordered against setting up of breakaway factions to weaken the Akali Dal.

Sukhbir alleged that the “central agencies were trying to weaken the SAD” by propping up “parallel” Akali Dal headed by Giani Harpreet Singh.

“Everybody saw how he tacitly blessed the assassination attempt against me after I had bowed my head before the Akal Takht and owned full responsibility for any wrong done by anyone during the SAD tenure from 2007 to 2017,” he said.

“My total surrender before the Akal Takht had actually defeated their conspiracy. Therefore, these elements colluded with the police to eliminate me and that too when I was performing sewa at Harmandar Sahib. But Akal Purakh had intervened to defeat this plot,” added Sukhbir.

Asserting that he does not want to talk about the activities of Giani Harpreet Singh and the latter’s local supporters like Prem Singh Chandumajra and Surjit Singh Rakhra but was doing so to let Punjabis know the truth.

He said, “Giani Harpreet Singh summoned me as well as the Akali leadership as part of a script with the sole aim of throwing me out of the Panth. A tailor made complaint was also procured to fulfil this mission”.

Stating that when the matter came to the notice of the SAD, its leadership decided that when the highest temporal seat summouns party president, he should not try to give any argument. “It was accordingly decided to take responsibility for any mistake made by the SAD government, party or officer,” Sukhbir pointed out.
