A nearly 20-year-old girl was severely injured when her hair got entangled in a rod of the Ferris wheel during a joyride at a mela in Malout’s Patel Nagar on Wednesday.

The injured girl, identified as Mehndi, a resident of Roop Nagar in Malout, was rushed to Malout Civil Hospital. After receiving first aid, she was referred to Bathinda for further treatment.“She requires an immediate skin transplant and has been referred to a specialist,” said one of the doctors.

According to a boy operating the Ferris wheel, the girl had been repeatedly instructed to sit down during the ride, but she continued to stand, which contributed to the accident.

However, the operator could not comment on whether proper permissions had been obtained for the installation of the ride at the mela.
