A UK-based Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha of volunteers, led by Mahinder Singh, was entrusted with the restoration service. They were also involved in the cleaning of the gold plates at the sanctum sanctorum for the past many years. Giani Rajdeep Singh, granthi, performed the ardas before commencing the installation work, while the SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami and jatha head Mahinder Singh were also present on the occasion.

Dhami said regular conservation work was carried out to preserve the gold plating and intricate “minakari” artwork at the Golden Temple. He said the current restoration involved cleaning, crafting and reinstalling of the gold sheets exactly as originally designed, along with the continued upkeep of the “minakari” work.

Before removing the sheets, these were videographed and pictures were taken to restore their original design. The original gold sheets were installed during the era of Maharaja Ranjit Singh on the inner walls of the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple.
