'Let Sidhu Moosewala rest in peace', begs mother after gunshots fired at son’s statue in Haryana

Gunshots were reportedly fired at a statue of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in Dabwali, Haryana.

This sparked outrage, especially from Moosewala’s mother, Charan Kaur, who took to Instagram to express her sorrow and anger.

In a heartfelt post written in Punjabi on Tuesday, Charan Kaur described the attack as not just vandalism, but an emotional blow.

“This is a wound to my soul. Even after his death, his enemies are not letting him be in peace,” she wrote. Kaur emphasised that her son stood for justice and the rights of the people, and that even after his passing, attempts were being made to silence his voice.

“My son was not just a singer—he was a movement. And that movement will live on. His memory will never die,” she said, adding, “One day, the guilty will be punished. Our silence is not our defeat.”

The controversy intensified after JJP leader Digvijay Singh Chautala reportedly received a video clip from an international number, showing an unidentified person firing at the Moosewala statue.

The message reportedly warned that those who support Moosewala would be targeted next.

The statue was installed in Dabwali by Chautala last year to honour the late singer. A case has been registered in Dabwali, Sirsa district, and police investigations are ongoing. "We are still verifying which statue was shown in the video. The investigation is underway," Dabwali City Police Station SHO Anil Kumar told PTI.

Sidhu Moosewala, born Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, was shot dead by gangsters on May 29, 2022, in Punjab’s Mansa district. His death shocked the nation and sparked widespread mourning.
