As members of the Satkar Committee continued their protest for the third consecutive day today over Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan’s recent controversial remarks, the police today booked him for hurting religious sentiments.

Members of the Satkar Committee had filed a police complaint after a singer’s video at the Nakodar fair went viral wherein he was purportedly heard saying Nakodar’s Baba Laddi Shah was a descendant of third Sikh master Guru Amar Das. Maan had later posted a video saying he did not intend to compare Sai Laddi Shah with Guru.

The Nakodar police registered a case against Maan, who is also the chairman of Dera Murad Shah, Nakodar, under Section 295A of the IPC. SSP (Rural) Naveen Singla said the FIR was registered on the complaint of a Satkar Committee member. The members also blocked the Jalandhar-Phagwara highway this afternoon against the singer. — OC
