Hari Nau murder case: SIT wants suspects’ detention extended
The special investigation team (SIT) has requested a 90-day extension in the detention of eight accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with a murder case involving Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh.
In an application submitted to the Additional District and Sessions Judge in Faridkot, the police said the judicial custody of the accused would expire in the second week of February.
If the chargesheet was not filed within the mandated 90-day period, the accused might become eligible for default bail. To prevent that and to ensure a thorough investigation, the police have sought additional time.
The case pertains to the murder of Gurpreet Singh, who was shot dead by three assailants in Hari Nau village in Faridkot on October 10. Among the 17 accused, five, including designated terrorist Arsh Dalla and MP Amritpal Singh, are yet to be arrested.
The court has issued notices to all accused through their respective jail superintendents, with the next hearing scheduled for February 3.
