Harike Kalan sarpanch disqualified over NDPS Act case
The court of Muktsar SDM on Thursday disqualified Gurpreet Singh, the sarpanch of Harike Kalan village, and declared Pargat Singh as the new sarpanch.
Pargat lost the election held last year by 693 votes and later filed a petition claiming that Gurpreet had been convicted in 2014 in a case registered against him in 2012 after 3-kg of opium was recovered from him in Patiala.
Meanwhile, talking to The Tribune today, Gurpreet said, “The NDPS Act case registered against me and one other person from my village was politically motivated, and now I have been removed from the post of sarpanch despite fulfilling all legal formalities during the election process. I will file a petition in the high court in this regard.”
