A homeguard, Charanjit Singh, who was deployed near Lambi village to divert traffic from the Malout-Delhi national highway due to the ongoing farmers protest, lost his life today after a car hit him.
The car also overturned, but its occupants managed to flee the spot. The injured homeguard was taken to the Community Health Centre situated in Lambi, where he passed away later.
The body has been kept at the Civil Hospital mortuary in Malout. The police have started an investigation and initiated efforts to identify and arrest the driver.
