Union Minister and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu today asked SAD to honour Sukhbir Singh Badal’s attacker Narain Singh Chaura with the title ‘Qaum de heere’ like they had felicitated killers of former CM Beant Singh.

Bittu said he strongly condemns the murderous bid on Sukhbir, but he wanted to expose the Akalis, especially the Badal family for their double standards.

Referring to the Akali Dal’s vocal support for his grandfather’s killer Balwant Singh Rajoana, Bittu said, “Despite being kids at the time of the assassination of Beant Singh, we supported the demand for Rajoana’s release. Now, the Akali Dal should display the same understanding towards Chaura.”

He said the Akalis should instal Chaura’s portrait at the Golden Temple’s museum and extend him legal support.

Describing Chaura’s act as motivated by religious emotion rather than personal vendetta, Bittu said the incident was a reaction to Sukhbir’s alleged confession of involvement in the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, forgiving the Dera Sacha Sauda head and misuse of the funds of the Golden Temple.

Chaura didn’t attack the Golden Temple or Akal Takht Sahib, his target was only Sukhbir, he said.

“The SAD should provide him with legal assistance, proper diet and clothing,” he said.

Bittu pointed out, “A total of 15 lives were lost when our grandfather was assassinated. The SAD honoured individuals in such cases at the Golden Temple. Now, it is their turn to reciprocate by supporting Chaura with similar magnanimity.”
