Hoshiarpur MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal has said efforts were on to improving drinking water situation, sewerage and cleanliness in mandis of the district. Addressing arhtiyas from grain market, vegetable market and other mandis of the area at the office of Market Committee, Hoshiarpur, Chabbewal said these markets will be equipped with modern facilities.

District Mandi Officer Gurkripal Singh and Market Committee Secretary Vinod Sharma were also present on the occasion.

He said the state government was committed to providing every possible facility to farmers and traders. Chabbewal said apart from the main grain market and vegetable market of Hoshiarpur, other mandis of the area would be promoted as a modern mandis of the state.

On the occasion, a delegation of arhtiyas said the plots in the mandis were not being sold as the reserve price fixed by the Mandi Board was too high. He assured that he will talk to the state government and Mandi Board officials to bring down the reserve price.

Answering questions of the arhtiyas of the grain market, Chabbewal said he will try to ensure that they get the support from the state government on the commission issue.

The MP said he will also request the government to provide modern facilities to the farmers in all 22 centers under Hoshiarpur Market Committee. He added that the committee will carry out development work worth crores of rupees in the villages without any political discrimination.

Chabbewal also distributed relief cheques from the Market Committee to the farmers who were injured during agricultural work.

Earlier, on reaching the office of the Market Committee, he was given a grand welcome by the arhtiyas association, grain market and vegetable market and the officials of the committee.

Among others Mandi president Honey Sood, district president Sudhir Sood, chairman Pandit Tarsem Modgil, president of Sabzi Mandi Narendra Jain were present on the occasion.
