Hoshiarpur got the first place, Sri Fatehgarh Sahib second and Faridkot third place in the free stick team game of Gatka in the 21-30 year age-group competition for women here on Friday.

Held at Khalsa College Senior Secondary School under Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan, the state-level competitions in Gatka and rugby commenced today.

Sukhchain Singh Kahlon, District Sports Officer, said Amritsar has got the honour of hosting state-level Gatka competition for the third time and rugby for the first time. He informed that sports competitions in rugby in the age-group of 14, 17, 21, 21-30 and of Gatka in under-14, 17, 21, 21-30 and 31-40 year age-groups are being conducted. In these games, the winners of district-level games are taking part.

In Under-14 rugby for girls, Barnala got the first place, Sri Muktsar Sahib second and Mansa

third place.

Earlier, the state-level games were inaugurated by Jasbir Singh Sandhu, MLA West constituency. In his address, he encouraged the players to stay away from drugs and participate more in sports. The chief guest then formally announced the start of the games and was introduced to the players and their coaches.
