Chandigarh: Technical Education Minister Charanjit Channi on Friday sought the implementation of the state’s reservation policy for weaker sections of society in regulations governing setting up of private universities.

At the Cabinet meet, he said private universities, by virtue of being autonomous bodies set up under the Punjab Private University Policy, must give mandatory reservation to weaker sections.

The issue came up when the Cabinet approved establishment of private self-financed ‘Lamrin Tech Skills University’ at Railmajra in Balachaur, Nawanshahr, to strengthen industry-oriented teaching, skill training and research. It also gave nod to re-promulgate the ‘Plaksha University, Punjab Ordinance-2021’ for setting up private self-financed Plaksha University in Mohali’s IT city. — TNS
