The police have arrested Dilpreet Singh and his father, Balwinder Singh, residents of Baba Jeevan Singh Nagar in Moga, for abetment to the suicide of Raipura village resident Nirmal Kaur.

The body of a 25-year-old woman was found yesterday in a canal near Kala Tibba village, 8 km from here. The deceased, Nirmal Kaur, was married to Dilpreet Singh about three months ago. Nirmal’s parents said her husband and in-laws often taunted her for her dark complexion, causing her stress.

The parents said the day before yesterday, Nirmal’s in-laws left her outside her maternal home. They said last night she left the house and jumped into the river, passing through Kerakhera village.
