Chandigarh, January 19
Inderpal Singh, senior additional advocate general, Punjab, is the new Chief Information Commissioner of Punjab. His name for the top post in the State Information Commission was cleared by Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

A successful lawyer from Hoshiarpur, Inderpal Singh “Dhanna”, is also a close friend of CM Bhagwant Mann. He succeeds former DGP Suresh Arora as the state’s CIC. Arora’s term had ended three months ago. Since then, the post had been lying vacant.
The date for his swearing-in ceremony is yet to be decided. Inderpal has been practising since 1989. He was appointed as senior additional advocate general in August. He was also the vice-chairman of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana in 2012.
