Justice Jasbir Singh (retd), chairman of an NGT committee, today said the increasing environmental pollution posed a grave threat to future generations. Justice Jasbir Singh, who addressed a meeting of civil officials regarding management of pollution and solid waste, said there was an urgent need of concerted efforts to save environment from pollution and consequent global warming.

Justice Jasbir Singh-led committee is monitoring pollution in the Sutlej, Beas and its tributaries as well as solid waste management in Punjab. Environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, who is a member of the committee, also attended the meeting.

The committee chairman urged the officials to take steps to check the pollution. He also asked the officials to regularly inspect industries, stone crushers and brick-kilns in the district.

He also sought information from the officials regarding the cleaning of rivers and canals, disposal of sewage and steps taken by the hospitals for the disposal of bio-medical waste.
