Irate over the sewage overflow in the Goneana road area here, local residents under the banner of the Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Malwa) today blocked both gates of the Muktsar Municipal Council, demanding laying of new sewerage in the area.

Later, the protesters marched towards the residence of MLA Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar to lodge a protest there, but were not allowed to gather there.

Muktsar SDM Baljeet Kaur and DSP Satnam Singh tried to pacify the protesters. Later, Deputy Commissioner Harpreet Sudan spoke to the protesters and fixed a meeting with them.

Roop Singh, a protester, said, “We just want a permanent solution to the problem being faced by the area residents. None from the administration is, however, ready to give us even an assurance.”
