Jailed drug peddler’s house razed

The police on Saturday demolished an “illegally constructed” house of a jailed drug peddler here.

According to a police officer, the house was built on a land of a government seed farm located on the periphery of Abohar town.

Chemists protest ‘crackdown’ on shops

The Punjab Chemists' Association (PCA) lodged a protest with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann against the alleged crackdown on them on the pretext of sale of banned drugs.

In a letter to the CM, PCA chief Surinder Duggal said the state government agencies and Narcotics Control Bureau were unnecessarily harassing the chemists.

Duggal said chemists had always extended their support to the state government in eradicating drug menace and had been working as per the guidelines of the Drug and Cosmetics Act.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varinder Singh Brar said property owner had 21 drug-related cases registered against him.

The SSP said more such action would follow. He said the district police had also launched a public outreach programme to gather valuable feedback, making the anti-drug campaign more effective.

The residents of Seed Farm village welcomed the police action, saying that such strict measures will weaken the networks of drug traffickers and ensure the success of Punjab Government’s mission to make the state drug-free.
