Jailed MP Amritpal’s father to float party

Tarsem Singh, father of imprisoned Khadoor Sahib MP and ‘Waris Punjab De’ leader Amritpal Singh, announced the formation of a new regional political party. Accompanied by Waris Punjab De activists, Tarsem Singh appeared at Akal Takht seeking permission from Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh to establish the party.

Marking the fourth anniversary of ‘Waris Punjab De’, Tarsem Singh emphasised the lack of a regional party that truly represents the interests of Punjabis. He stated that the new party would focus on the welfare of all, without any discrimination based on religion or caste, and would be rooted in the principle of equality.

He criticised existing political bodies like the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the SGPC, accusing them of deviating from the true principles of Sikhism. He also took aim at national political parties, highlighting their dominance over state politics and suggesting that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann might face a similar fate as former CM Capt Amarinder Singh, who was removed from office by central decision-makers.

He noted that the party’s name and constitution would be decided in consultation with the Sikh community and scholars would help shape its agenda. The new party aims to address issues specific to Punjab and prioritise decisions made by the people of the state.
