A Jalandhar-based RTI activist allegedly received a threat call from gangster Anmol Bishnoi, asking him to stop pursuing a case related to a colony on 66-ft road in Jalandhar.

The RTI activist, Simranjit Singh, claimed he had received the threat call while heading towards Jalandhar from Chandigarh on the night of July 14.

An FIR has been registered under Sections 294, 307 and 511 of the IPC on the complaint of Simranjit at Kurali police station in Mohali.

As per the audio-recording of a phone call released by the complainant, Anmol Bishnoi, younger brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, asked him to withdraw the complaint regarding the illegal colony or he would be shot.

SAS Nagar SSP Vivek Sheel Soni said: “We can’t say whether the caller has any connection with Lawrence Bishnoi. The matter is under investigation. Some cops from the Mohali police had escorted the complainant back to his house after the reported threat.”

Jalandhar Commssioner of Police Gursharan Singh Sandhu said: “We have written to the security wing. They will assess what kind of security is required for the complainant. For the moment, a duty officer has been directed to provide security cover to the RTI activist.”
