Chandigarh: The Punjab Government on Tuesday appointed Vijay Kumar Janjua, a 1989-batch IAS officer, as the Chief Secretary, replacing Anirudh Tewari. Janjua will also hold the charge of the Principal Secretary, Department of Personnel and Vigilance, earlier held by Tewari. Tewari, a 1990-batch IAS officer, has been given the charge of the Director General, Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration. In November 2009, Janjua, posted as Secretary-cum-Director, Industries and Commerce, was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a Ludhiana industrialist. He was later acquitted by the court.
