According to sources, the visit was purely religious in nature, with no official engagements scheduled. The CM arrived around 2 pm and stayed at the gurudwara for about 40 minutes.

In a brief interaction with the media, the CM said he had come to perform ardas for the welfare of Punjab and its people. Commenting about the vigilance raid conducted by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau at the office and residence of Gillco Valley realtor Ranjit Singh Gill, the CM said that the law would take its course.

“Jo karan ge so bharan ge (people would pay for their own deeds),” the CM said.

The raid came after Ranjit Singh Gill joined the BJP.

About the closed Guru Gobind Singh Skill Development University that was brought up at Chamkaur Sahib during the stint of the previous Congress government, the CM said that all buildings left unused by the previous government were being put to use soon by the current government.

Responding to allegations by former CM Charanjit Singh Channi, who represented the area and claimed the university was not being put to use to political vendetta, the CM denied any such motives.

He also said that a 50-bed hospital in Chamkaur Sahib is ready and would be opened to the public very soon.

Gurudwara Katalgarh Sahib holds immense historical and spiritual significance for Sikhs. It is the site of one of the most poignant episodes in Sikh history during the Battle of Chamkaur in 1704. It was here that Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, along with his two elder sons, Sahibzada Ajit Singh and Sahibzada Jujhar Singh and a handful of Sikhs, fought valiantly against a much larger Mughal army.

The Gurudwara marks the spot where the two Sahibzadas attained martyrdom, displaying extraordinary bravery and adherence to Sikh principles. The word ‘Katalgarh’ literally means ‘fort of slaughter’, referring to the fierce battle and supreme sacrifices made at this location.
