Four members of the New Unemployed PTI Union, Punjab, climbed atop an overhead water tank near main bus stand here today to demand opening of an online portal for unemployed Physical Training Instructors (PTIs) to apply for 2,000 posts.

Protesting against the state government, Gurwinder Singh from Ludhiana, Vinay Singh from Fazilka, Akshay Kumar from Pathankot and Gurbinder Singh from Mansa, climbed atop the water tank in the afternoon. However, they got down in the evening after Education Minister Harjot Bains reportedly assured them to start the recruitment process from February 12.

Talking to this reporter, state president of the union Amandeep Singh Kamboj said Sangrur Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal had met Bains and the minister assured him that the recruitment process would start from February 12. Bains has also invited the union representatives for a talk at Punjab Bhawan on February 8, Kamboj added.
