Kapurthala markets remain shut in protest against terror attack

As a mark of protest against the Pahalgam terror attack, markets in Kapurthala remained completely shut till 12 noon on Thursday.

Social, religious and political organisations observed a complete bandh in solidiarity with the victims of the attack. Slogans, “Down with terrorism” and “Down with Pakistan”, were raised by residents.

2-hour bandh in Muktsar

Muktsar: All markets in Muktsar town remained completely shut for two hours. The call to observe a two-hour bandh from 9 am to 11 am was given by the Beopar Mandal.

Leaders and representatives of various religious, social and political organisations participated in a protest march, which began from Ghas Mandi Chowk, and passed through Gandhi Chowk, Kotkapura Chowk and culminated at the District Administrative Complex (DAC), where they handed over a memorandum to Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Gurpreet Singh Thind, demanding a strong and decisive response from the Centre to the attack.

Searches at bars, spas

Chandigarh: The police conducted cordon and search operations at vulnerable places, including spa centres and bars, in all 28 police districts of the state. Over 2,500 police personnel were involved in the exercise from 1 pm to 5 pm.

ADGP (Human Rights and Law and Order) Naresh Arora said such vulnerable places could be used to carry out illegal activities.
