Kerala ties up with Punjab for tourism

The Kerala Tourism Department intensified its campaign to attract tourists in view of state’s image taking a beating following unprecedented floods in 2018 and 2019 and, lately, the coronavirus threat.

It kicked off its second phase of tourism promotional partnership meet here on Tuesday while showcasing state’s traditional art forms such as the Mohiniyattam, Kathakali, Padayani, Kalaripayattu and peacock dance.

The tourism industry in Kerala saw a slump following three cases of coronavirus in the state.

Deputy Director (Tourism) of Muraleedharan said a strong message had been sent out globally that the state department was aware of and competent enough to ensure the safety of its guests.

About tourists from Punjab, he said that 31,314 people visited Kerala in 2016. The number rose to 40,080 the next year and 43,940 in 2018. “Punjabis occupy 15th place on a list ofvisitors frequenting the state.”
