A couple of Duhal Kona village, 50 km from here, was killed in a case of alleged honour killing. The decomposed bodies were recovered from a field in the nearby Manawan village.

The Khemkaran police booked members of the girl’s family under Sections 302, 201 and 120B of the IPC.

Officials said the deceased had been identified as Jugraj Singh (20) and Jyoti (18) of Duhal Kona village. The girl’s family was reportedly opposed to the relationship.

The case has been registered on the statement of Jugraj’s father Kulwant Singh. He said the couple left home on May 7 night but did not return. Two of the accused were identified as Jyoti’s mother Sukhi and the girl’s cousin Gurbhej Singh. No arrests have been made in the case so far. The SHO said the bodies had been sent to the Civil Hospital, Patti, for a post-mortem.
