Akal Takht officiating jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj here on Wednesday claimed that Ghumman brothers, namely GPS Ghumman and GS Ghumman, the lawyers representing the case of Sandeep Singh, alias Sunny, of Amritsar, currently detained in a Sangrur jail, “were being pressurised directly or indirectly”.

Jathedar Gargaj stressed that Sandeep Singh had every right to seek legal assistance from any lawyer of his choice to defend himself in whatever legal proceedings were initiated against him. He further said that pressure being exerted on the Ghumman brothers appears to be part of a government policy, which was neither just nor impartial.

He alleged that after Sandeep Singh was subjected to torture by the jail and police administration, his medical examination was initially not conducted despite court orders.

He also condemned the recent attack on Sikh lawyer Simarjit Singh in the Punjab and Haryana High Court by some lawyers and demanded action against those responsible for the incident.
