The day temperatures in Punjab have been near normal over the past 24 hours, with some places in the state experiencing light rain.

Fazilka, Patiala, Barnala and Sangrur districts received varying amounts of rain. These have been attributed to western disturbances and cyclonic circulations prevailing in the region and its neighborhood.

Rainfall in Punjab has been deficient for the month of June so far. From June 1 till June 15, the state has received 14.2 mm of rain compared to the long period average of 18.2 mm for this period, accounting for a shortfall of 22 per cent.

Bathinda continues to be the hottest place in Punjab, with the maximum temperature recorded on Sunday being 42.2 degrees Celsius, down from a high of 46.8 degrees Celsius experienced a few days ago.

Day temperatures in Punjab during the past week were up to 6.5 degrees Celsius above normal. Warm nights continue to prevail in the state.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds in some parts of Punjab till June 20.
