Ludhiana man gets 20-year jail for sexually assaulting child

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Amarjeet Singh has sentenced Prabhjot Singh, alias Jot, alias Parvinder Singh, of Ludhiana to 20-year rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl.

Delivering the verdict, the court recommended the District Legal Services Authority, Ludhiana, to pay a compensation of Rs 6 lakh to victim’s family for the purpose of social rehabilitation, better future and welfare of the child. The court also ordered the accused to pay Rs 1.20 lakh as fine. Out of the fine, Rs 1 lakh would be paid as compensation to the victim.

Special Public Prosecutor Rushil Jindal said that on December 27, 2023, the child was playing outside her home. As per her mother’s complaint, the accused lured the child to a nearby vacant plot, where he gagged and sexually assaulted her. The child returned home crying, prompting her mother to report the matter to the police.

Sub-Inspector Kuljit Kaur recorded the victim’s statement, while Sl Satwinder Singh led the investigation. Evidence was gathered from the crime scene, corroborating the victim’s account. It came to light that the accused was a repeat offender.
