Major General Vinayak Saini (Retd) has been selected as the new Chairperson of the Punjab Public Service Commission. He will be administered the oath of office on Wednesday.

He will succeed former IPS officer Jatinder Singh Aulukh, who completed his term as PPSC Chairperson in January this year. The post had been lying vacant since then. PPSC member Harmohan Kaur Sandhu was officiating as its Chairperson.

Official sources in the state government told The Tribune that Maj Gen Vinayak Saini (Retd) was selected as PPSC Chairperson around 10 days ago. Though some retired bureaucrats, who held important posts during the AAP government’s three-year rule, were eyeing the post, the government was looking to select a retired Army officer.

The former Army officer hails from Hoshiarpur, and is settled in Mohali ever since he hung his boots in October last year.
