Upset over alleged indifferent attitude of leaders of their mother party, office-bearers and activists of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) have announced to organise their meetings and rallies independently in the district during forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Upset with parent party

Workers are upset that Congress leaders, including probable candidates for various elections, call us only at the time of organising meetings and rallies. We have decided that we will organise our separate events in future, though we will support the agenda of the main party as loyal workers of the INTUC. — Parmeshar Pal, INTUC Malerkotla president

They have also announced that they would support only those candidates who recognise and acknowledge contributions made by the INTUC in strengthening the Congress party in the region.

Announcement was made by INTUC’s Malerkotla district president Parmeshar Pal after conducting meetings with office-bearers and workers of various units of the district.

Pal said workers of the INTUC were upset that leaders of the mother political party, Congress, didn’t value their contribution in strengthening the party in the region. “Workers are upset that Congress leaders, including probable candidates for various elections, call them only at the time of organising meetings and rallies and start ignoring after every event,” alleged Pal, regretting that joint events held in the past were ultimately portrayed as an achievement of the major party leaders.

Claiming that he had brought the situation into notice of the state president and national president of the INTUC, Pal said they (state and national leaders) too were of the opinion that joint events should be held in only those cases where Congress leaders recognise and acknowledge worker’s contribution. “We have decided that we will organise our separate events in future, though we will support the agenda of the main party as loyal workers of the INTUC,” said Pal, adding that no support will be extended to those candidates who don’t recognise the INTUC.
