Chandigarh, August 5

Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring today said the Malwa canal project would be a failure. Warring pointed out that technical, social and economic impact of the canal had not been studied. Expressing concerns over the environment impact, especially deforestation, and logistical challenge of water distribution, the PCC chief said the feasibility of providing water to 22 blocks raised doubts about the technical viability of the project. — TNS

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
