A medical team, wearing decontamination suits, celebrated the birth of a baby boy at Civil Hospital, Faridkot, on Sunday whose father was diagnosed with the Covid-19 on April 3.

Thirtyfive-year-old father of the child was the first person to be diagnosed with the infection in the district. While his wife, mother and daughter tested negative, his two friends tested positive for virus. All three patients are under treatment at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital here.

After one week of treatment at the medical college, the patient’s report has come negative. However, it is subject to confirmation by the National Institute of Virology, Pune. He will be discharged only after his chest X-ray and other samples come clean within 24 hours. “While the sample of one test from Government Medical College, Amritsar, came negative today, we have sent the samples to National Institute of Virology, Pune, for confirmatory test before discharging the patient,” said a senior officer.

“Both the baby and mother are in a good health. The mother has already tested negative for virus, but we will keep them under observation,” said the authorities at Civil Hospital.
