A property dealer, identified as Ravi Kumar (56), died after he jumped from the sixth floor of a hotel in the Ranjit Avenue area here on Tuesday evening.

According to the police, he was suffering from depression, which led him to take the extreme step. Police officials, led by SHO Robin Hans, reached the spot and took the body of the deceased into custody for a post-mortem examination.

The deceased was a resident of Loharka road. He allegedly took a room on rent before taking the extreme step by jumping from the sixth floor.

Hans said he was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. He said inquest proceedings had been initiated and further probe was under way.
