As many as 84 residential colonies are unauthorised in Muktsar town, as per a survey done by the Municipal Council. Some of these colonies are developed by influential persons who are least concerned about legal action.

Sources said a majority of these colonies were having sewerage and water supply system.

The National Consumer Awareness Group has raised the matter with the authorities concerned. “The municipal council is unable to discharge its duties efficiently. Though the state government has stopped the registries at unauthorised colonies, yet plots are being sold,” claimed Sham Lal Goyal, district chief, National Consumer Awareness Group.

Bipan Kumar, Executive Officer, Muktsar, said, “Some of the unauthorised colonies have been regularised in the recent past. About those still unauthorised, officials of the Revenue Department have been informed and the state government has already banned registration of sale deed of plots or houses.”
