Medical services hit in Punjab for 2nd day

Medical services were hit across the state for the second day in a row as doctors continued their half-day strike on a call given by the Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA) to push for their demands.

While emergency and intensive care facilities remained functional, other key services like outpatient departments, elective surgeries, dope tests and medical examinations remained suspended for three hours.

Members of the PCSMA are demanding restoration of the assured career progression scheme (ASP) and security measures at health care centres across the state. After initial talks between the association and government failed to make any headway, another meeting with the Cabinet sub-committee headed by Finance Minister Harpal Cheema is scheduled for September 11.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
