The Moga police on Monday brought Lawrence Bishnoi on production/transit remand by obtaining permission from a judicial court at Malout in Muktsar district.

“He will be interrogated in an attempt to murder case registered at a local police station,” SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said here today.

After Bishnoi’s medical examination , he was produced before the ‘ilaqa’ magistrate of Moga city. “We demanded his 10-day police remand, which was granted by the court,” the SSP said.

Bishnoi allegedly took a ‘supari’ and sent two gangsters — Monu Dagar and Jodhajit Singh — to kill a local ‘gangster’ of a rival group Jatinder Kumar Neela, brother of Ashok Dhamija, who is the Deputy Mayor of Moga city.

Monu Dagar, hailing from Sonepat of Haryana, came all the way from Lucknow to Moga to kill Neela, but missed the target on December 1 last year. When Monu and Jodhajit went outside the house of Neela to kill him, one Sunil Kumar Dhamija and his son Pratham Kumar tried to protect him. Monu and Jodhajit fired shots at them. Pratham received a bullet injury in his leg, while his father was hit on the head with the butt of a pistol as he scuffled with them.

Monu, who was also wanted in many cases of murder, dacoity, ransom and other criminal activities was arrested on the spot. Since then, he was languishing in a Faridkot jail. A few days ago, he was brought on a production warrant in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case. Previous probes revealed that Bishnoi’s Canada-based handler Goldy Brar tied up with his sharpshooters to kill Neela, the SSP said.
