Mohali: A special court on Monday sent former Forest Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot to judicial custody. Dharamsot’s remand was extended by two days on January 19. Dharamsot was arrested under the PMLA Act on January 15. The ED had launched a probe into alleged irregularities in the Forest Department during his tenure and for allegedly acquiring financial gains. TNS

Confusion among students

Chandigarh: In absence of clear guidelines from the Education Department, confusion prevailed over the timings of schools today as these were opened for the first time after a prolonged winter break. Some schools opened at 10 am and some at 9 am. Earlier, in view of harsh weather conditions and to ensure the safety of students, the government had announced holidays for all primary classes till January 20. TNS

Rs 25 lakh for Dirba village

Sangrur: For a proper solution to a sewage disposal problem of the residents of Kothe Ala Singh village in Dirba, state government has purchased land from a person and given the same to gram panchayat of the village. This was informed by Finance Minister Harpal Cheema during his visit here. He also announced a grant of Rs 25 lakh for development in the village.
