More anti-drone systems to stop drug supply from across border: Punjab Governor

In continuation of his six-day padyatra against drugs, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria carried on for the second day in Amritsar and called upon the people of Punjab to rise in unison in the war against drugs.

Today’s yatra started from Oxford School and culminated at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Group of Colleges.

Calling drug menace a problem of the entire country and not Punjab alone, the Governor stated that the state government was making all-out efforts to ensure “Nasha Mukt Punjab”. He also mentioned that the anti-drone systems were being increased in number to put a stop to the drug supply network from across the border.

He said Punjab was a land of warriors and martyrs who had made a lot of sacrifices, hence this sacred land won’t be allowed to be destroyed by the scourge of drugs.

“The security forces are burning midnight oil to foil the nefarious designs of enemies across the border who are indulging in drug trafficking. Apart from this, the village defence committees are doing a praiseworthy work in the fight against the drug menace,” he said.

In his address at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Group of College, Fatehgarh Churian, the Governor exhorted the children and eminent personalities to come forward in ensuring drug-free surroundings.

“Since the government alone cannot eradicate the drug menace, it is imperative that the common people too become part of this campaign. He also pointed out that sports was the best way to wean the youth away from drugs. Whichever village panchayat needed any help for sports-related activity could contact the deputy commissioners concerned,” he said.

The Governor also underscored the importance of religious and moral values in keeping the children away from drugs as visits to the religious places connect children with their inner being which keeps their attention away from drugs.

Among others present on the occasion were Principal Secretary to Governor Vivek Pratap Singh, international athlete Bahadur Singh, international hockey player Baljit Singh and rowing player Chandandeep Singh.
