Talking to The Tribune, Gurmeet’s father Chunni Lal said his son had left for the US on November 12 last year, for which the immigration agent charged them Rs 40 lakh, which they had borrowed from their relatives and moneylenders by mortgaging jewellery and their house.

Chunni Lal said he had left Gurmeet in New Delhi and did not know through which route the travel agent took his son to the US before his arrest by the authorities there.
