Dr Sahney stated that many of them had completed over 30 years in jail, with even paroles repeatedly denied to them.

He further said that the pending remission plea of Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar, who had completed three decades in prison and was mentally unwell, also continued to await review.

Speaking in Parliament during the 150-year commemoration of Vande Mataram, Dr Sahney emphasised that the Sikh community had always stood at the forefront of defending India’s honour and unity.

“From the martyrs of the freedom struggle to the soldiers guarding our borders, Sikhs have lived the spirit of Vande Mataram through sacrifice and service. Our Gurus taught us to always uphold harmony, reject hate and protect the weak. Protecting minority rights is not merely a constitutional duty, it is the soul of India,” he said.
