Multiple Cong ticket aspirants on Muktsar seats

Three to five persons in each segment submit biodata to AICC secy

Amid infighting in the Congress, a large number of people are demanding the party ticket to contest the upcoming state elections.

For instance, in Muktsar Assembly constituency, five people have given their biodata to AICC secretary Harshwardhan Sapkal to get the party ticket. These are former MLA Karan Kaur Brar, who is the daughter-in-law of former Chief Minister Harcharan Singh Brar; Rajbalwinder Singh Marar, son of former MLA Sukhdarshan Singh Marar; PCC general secretary Jagjit Singh Honey Fattanwala, grandson of former MLA Harcharan Singh Fattanwala and a cousin of Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal; District Congress Committee president Harcharan Singh Sotha, maternal uncle of Transport Minister Amrinder Singh Raja Warring; Simarjit Singh Bhina Brar, son of former Muktsar District Congress Committee president Gursant Singh Brar. Besides, a businessman Bharat Bhushan Binta and PPCC secretary Pushpinder Singh Bhandari, too, have staked their claims for the ticket from Muktsar.

Similarly, in Lambi, Fateh Singh Badal, son of senior Congress leader Maheshinder Singh Badal; Jagpal Singh Abul Khurana, son of late minister Gurnam Singh Abul Khurana; and Shivkanwar Singh Sandhu are the party’s ticket applicants.

In Malout, sitting MLA Ajaib Singh Bhatti, Bathinda Rural MLA Rupinder Kaur Ruby, Zila Parishad member Master Jaspal Singh, Balluana MLA Nathu Ram’s son Deepak and some others are aspirants for the Congress’ ticket.

However, in Gidderbaha, the scene is altogether different where so far only sitting MLA-cum-Transport Minister Amrinder Singh Raja Warring is the probable candidate of the Congress.

Harcharan Singh Sotha Brar, president, District Congress Committee, Muktsar, said, “After Charanjit Singh Channi became the Chief Minister and Navjot Singh Sidhu took over the charge of the PCC chief, things have changed in the state. The morale of Congressmen has got a major boost. As a result, a large number of people are now demanding the party ticket.”
